Today kicks off the third annual Musink Tattoo and Music Festival at the Orange County Fairgrounds, and our first year there. We will be reporting on each day’s events – and if all goes well, we might be able to report from the event live!
Even if you aren’t into the music or tattoos this will be a great event to people watch, grab some food, a beer, and relax. I mean seriously, like 10 bands each night, 300 artists, fine art exhibits, food, drinks, thousands of fans. What more could you ask for?
This year is featuring some 300 different tattoo artists – from even artists that I would know – not being in the tatooo scene myself like Corey Miller of Six Feet Under and Kim Saigh, both from the TLC reality tv show LA Ink. My friends are trying to convince me to get a tattoo while I am there. We will see… This third annual Musink Festival will also feature pro skateboarders throughout the event. Tony Alva, Christian Hosoi, Mike Vallely, Salba, Steve Olson, Eric Dressen, Duane Peters, and more will be skating the ramp. Jarritos will be on the scene handing out free drinks!
The music kicks off Friday at 3PM with Orange County local band SIX and continues throughout the night with other local and national bands. Mike Vallely / By The gets on stage around 7:30 and the night ends with The Unfortunates and the CULT - the famous english rock band with such singles as She Sells sanctuary and Love removal machine.. Saturday starts off with Glass Heros and continues through the night with Tony Alva’s band (another professional skateboarder), the head cats, a surprise at 7:45, and the night ends with English rock band the Buzzcocks and ends with the British stars the Damned, known as being the first punk rock band out of the united kingdom to release an album and tour the united states. Sunday will be no different with bands such as the Riot Brides, Face to Face, NOFX, Longaway and more. The Riot Brides are a few hot girls from Los Angeles, these chicks can rock out and from what I hear directly from the band -there are known to have wardrobe malfunctions! Face to Face you should know with some 7 studio albums and with their radio hit Disconnected. And NOFX – what can I say about NOFX that do justice. I remember listening to them some 20 years ago on skateboarding videos. And here they are as good as ever (I can speak from experience, having seen them a couple months back). Fat mike and his crew haven’t missed a beat. Oh and expect the night to possible go longer then scheduled =)
There is also a Fine Art page on musink’s website – however it hasn’t worked since the site went live. I think it might be safe to assume thought there will be some fine art and maybe even photography on display at the festival. See you tonight! |
