This Saturday, October 8th the DJ voted by Mixmag as “The Greatest DJ of All Time” Tijs Verwest better known as Tiësto takes over Home Depot Center in Los Angeles, CA for his biggest U.S. show ever. The event marks the end to Tiësto’s two week “Club Life College Invasion Tour.” Geared towards college students the Grammy nominated DJ hopes his tour will help get the younger crowd more involved in the electronic music scene. For the tour’s finale Tiësto tells Daily Trojan’s Eddie Kim “We’re rolling out the production values on this one, state-of-the-art lights, special effects — people should expect to be blown away. That’s what I’ve planned.”
Anyone who follows “The Greatest DJ of All Time” knows Tiësto loves doing it up big with his performances. Last year he completed his “Kaleidoscope World Tour,” a 15 month international tour which saw stops on six different continents. The tour earned the critically acclaimed DJ two Billboard award nominations and landed him a spot within the Top 25 grossing tours of 2010. All in all Tiësto entertained over a million people during his worldwide tour. Momentum built from Tiësto’s “Kaleidoscope World Tour” has only grown with “Club Life College Invasion Tour.” Targeting college students brings a higher energy level than usual to the shows the DJ explained to Daily Trojan, describing the current tour’s atmosphere as “a wild raging party.” Tijs believes the crowd’s youthful vigor accounts for the increased liveliness. To successfully reach young scholars the personnel behind the tour decided to book large venues close to college campuses and offer discounted tickets for students. Discounted student tickets require a student ID. If you find yourself debating about whether you should purchase tickets for this Saturday, ask yourself “If I had the opportunity to see The Beatles perform in their prime, would I go?” Yeah, that’s a loaded and slightly unfair comparison, due to the varying genres, but the principal remains the same. You can easily make a case Tiësto came into his prime the past year or so. Besides his touring success Tijs graced the cover of Billboard Magazine for the September 10th, 2011 issue and his social media following featuring over nine million Facebook fans and 240 million Youtube hits continues to grow. Regarding his skills the DJ’s PR people say “Musically, Tiësto has been experimenting more than ever before.” Artists joining Tijs on “Club Life College Invasion Tour” include Dada Life, Diplo, and the teenage sensation Porter Robinson. “The Greatest DJ of All Time” demonstrated much admiration for his under acts saying to Daily Trojan “I’m really excited. I love all these DJs. The four of us all have our own special flavor… It’s a dream lineup, really.” Considering Home Depot Center holds 26,000 the concert will seem even more dreamlike. 26,000 capacity guarantees the “Club Life College Invasion Tour” finale goes down in entertainment history as the largest DJ show ever played in the United States. Ensure yourself a memorable weekend for the ages by seeing Tijs Saturday night, October 8th at Home Depot Center. To purchase tickets visit Ticketmaster. For all you college students, remember your student ID gets you in at a discounted rate. |
